Who We Are
Phillips Tube Group traces its roots back to 1967 when the late Ralph Phillips opened a machine shop on the outskirts of Shelby, Ohio. Initially named Phillips Welding and Machine, Mr. Phillips realized the need locally for a machine shop. Within one year he secured a government contract and worked with local businesses of various sizes.
Over the years, his business in Shelby grew. First with the purchase of Barker Tower in 1974, a manufacturer of TV antennas, which was later renamed to Phillips Mfg. & Tower Co. In 1979 an addition was added to the facility that allowed tube mills to be brought on site. By 1984, the tube division of Phillips Mfg. & Tower Company became Shelby Welded Tube.
Phillips Tube Group is proud to be the number one fuel filler manufacturer in the world.
Mr. Phillips decided to grow the business in 1993 with the purchase of Armco LP’s Tubing Division and renamed the entity Middletown Tube Works. Mr. Phillips and his team immediately streamlined the company in order to provide highly formable coated and non-coated welded steel tube for a wide variety of industries including automotive, HVAC, appliance, mining and construction.
Following the passing of owner and founder, Ralph Phillips, in 2009, operations were taken over by his daughter Angela Phillips.
Following this transition, the company received its WBENC certification in 2010, showcasing its status as a woman owned business. In 2020, Phillips Tube Group expanded operations into Indiana, with the opening of an advanced technology center.
